Gear Measurement

Vision technology is also used for the precise measurement of gears. Advanced camera systems and algorithms analyze tooth profiles, distances between teeth, diameters, and wear patterns with high precision. This often occurs in real-time during production, allowing deviations to be detected immediately and ensuring product quality is maintained. By automating these measurements, the need for manual inspections is reduced, leading to faster and more efficient production processes with greater accuracy.

Case description

A customer had a request to measure gears directly in the production process after grinding. The existing system worked with a separate lab, where random measurements were checked with a 3D measuring bench. Thanks to the implementation of a vision system, it is possible to measure each gear individually after grinding.

An additional advantage of optical measurements is that the vision system can show on a screen what the gear looked like before and after the grinding operation. This gives operators a visual indication of the amount of material removed during grinding. Since this involves removals of a few hundredths of a millimeter, this is not visible to the naked eye. The system thus provides accurate and efficient quality control in real time.
